DANEVIRKE R.M. COURT.

At the Danevirke Court yesterday, before Messrs Clayton and Hawkins, J.P.’s, Edward Tyson alias Clarkson, Frederick Thomson, and James Malcolm were charged with stealing £2 Gs, the property of F. G. Newnham. Prisoners pleaded no f - guilty. Police Corporal Manning said the circumstances were briefly as follows; —On the 23rd the three men came to the Club Hotel and took beds, to which they retired at 10 p.m. John Henderson slept on the same floor as that in which prisoners' room was situated, and at one o’clock be was aroused by his wife, and beard some' one in his room. He struck a light and heard some one going oat of the room, went oat and found Tyson and Thomson—fully dressed, except that they had no boots on—in the passage. He told them he would go for the constable, which he did, and the prisoners were arrested. In the morning Newnham found he had lost all the money he had—£3 6s. Constable Manning applied for a remand for eight days. Thomson objected to a remand on the ground that there was no evidence before the Court. John Henderson and Newnham were then called, and the facts as stated by the police were brought out. Witnesses were cross-examined by Thomson and Tyson, without materially affecting the position, and accused were remanded till December 4th. They were forwarded to Napier yesterday. There are 20 previous convictions against one of the accused. In appearance Ma'colm is a tall athletic young man with a face that would be pleasant but for a look of cruelty. He is a professional pugilist. Thomson is short and stout, and jovial. Tyson is tall, spare and athletic wdth a face indicative of uncurbed passion.
