CORRESPONDENCE.

Oorrenpondeuoe is invited upon subjects of "encrsl interest, but va do uot hold ourselves respousibl lor the opinions expressed by the writers.] MR CAMPBELL EXPLAINS. (TO THE EDITOR.) Sir, —In your issue of the 10th instant you say that I was unconsciously severe on my employer (Mr Ormond) at the meeting regarding the AA oodville Examiner on Wednesdaj 7 . You put it that I said that there were only two men outside the district who took any interest in it, meaning Mr R.D. L>. McLean and Mr Tanner. I must refute your statement as I certainly did net mention any of the above-named gentleman at the meeting. What I said was this ; As far as I could see it was useless to go any further in trying to form a company' to buy' the AYoodville Examiner, without we could get outsiders to take up the most of the shares, but that as far ns I knew there were only one or two gentlemen outside who took the slightest interest in the Woodville Examiner. —I did not say the district. As to your remarks regarding Mr Ormond they are not worth noticing. In conclusion I wish to remind you of the awkward way which you have of sticking to facts. —I am, etc., C. M. Campbell. September 13, 1880. [Mr Campbell knows very w'ell that he distinctly mentioned two gentlemen, and that these were the two referred to. He will also probably remember that his statement caused such surprise; that he was immediately asked whether Mr Ormond really took no interest in the district, when Mr Campbell half bashfully (as well he might) replied : Not in this matter at all events ; and another gentleman interjected that Mr J.D.O. would not take a share even in the Cheese Factory. We can quite understand Mr Campbell’s statement that our way of sticking to facts is rather awkward. Yes, it is—for Mr Campbell and Air Ormond “ and all the motley crew,” whose public doings we have exposed from time to time.—Ed. W.E.J
