WOODVILLE ROAD BOARD

The usual monthly meeting »f the Board was held on Saturday night. Present : Messrs Peebles (chairman), Thomas, Nevill, and Morgan. COHRESPOXDEXCE. From County Council re applying for subsidy.—The clerk reported that he had already done so. The total amount of general rate was .£'2oo 0s 9J, and from Crown Lands, .£lO 7s 7d. From the Treasury, notifying payment to Board's credit of £'3o Ga 9d deferred thirds. From the Crown Lands Department, enclosing Gazette containing order in Council, vesting section 11, Block IX., W.S.D., in the Board as a gravel reserve. Mr Meredith, who was present, expressed himself willing to lease the reserve for a term of 21 years.—lt was resolved, That the 16. V acres gravel reserve be put up to auction for a term of 14 years. From Mr Bradford, asking the Board t) make the bridge close to his section wide enough for dray traffic, and offering to do the work for £'3. From Mr Bradford and others re the slate of Belshaw's road, and stating that the road at the side cutting was being washed away,—Resolved, That Messrs Nevi'l and McCormick inspect the road and bridge and report at next meeting. From settlers on Oxford road west, asking that the road might be made passible.—Resolved, That Messrs Morgan and Thomas prepare specifications for 2-J----chains formation, and for lifting the bridge, and call for tenders to be in by next meeting of the Board. From Mr Mills, withdrawing from his contract. —Deposit to be forfeited unless work gone on with. From G. B. Bradford, asking that J. E. Johnson's name be inserted on the ratebook for section 4S, as the property had baen bought by him.—Granted. From Mr Madden, stating that the ■property in his name had been purchased b/ Fitzherbert and Dewes nioiths ago.— Resolved, That Mr Madden be held responsible for the rate as his name appeared on the valuation roll. Mr Foley asked that a dray road might be made to his property in the Victoria Block. —Mr Foley, who was present to support his application, stated that ho had been on his section for 5 years, and could not get in or out. He asked for 10 chaims stumping and clearing.—Resolved That Mr McCormick report on the road at next meeting. From Messrs Pederscn, N. Thompson, and Thomas Brown, asking that the Board would do something to Woodland's road, between sections 17 and 19.—Resolved, That Messrs Thomas and Morgan prepare specifications for the work as far Pedersen's and that tenders be called. MISCELLANEOUS. The Board resolved, That notice be given to J. Ready, jmir., that unless lie finishes his contract in Upper Bradford's road before next meeting, the Board would get the work done at his expense. It was resolved to call for tenders for stumping 16ft wide the road to Mr F. S. SpurrelPs property. Mr Smith offered to put in culvert on Hope's road for 80s, and the offer was accepted. Mr Hyde was granted permission to drain off water through to the road drain. Mr Nevill was asked to see that the roots ou the top of the hill on Conduit road were removed. PROPOSAL TO BORROW £2OOO. Mr Nevill thought the Board should take advantge of the Loans to Local Bodies Act passed last session and borrow £"2000
