AN OUTSIDE OPINION.
(to the editor.) Sir, —In passing through your rising town, I was much surprised to see a very '"' handsome theatre going up. It reflects < r -reat credit upon the enterprising (owns-' man who 'haff e'Sppnded' • so'' large an' f" amount on d : building to rneet : the re- \. qiurements of the district so long felt. I !, * '' have seen many buildings of the kind, ana can say it is one of the most convenient
mid well arranged halls, for public meetings, clubs, Ac, there is on this coast. But I am told that a few of the old townspeople arc now calling upon the public to mi:-1? the necessary funds to build a drill shed (which no doubt is required), and thereby getting pound for pound from the Government, and from what I can understand they intend competing against the proprietor of the new hall, for local entertainments and meetings. Now, sir, is this fair for a body of townsmen to gi against one individual in an enteprise, and one, too, who has assisted so much in forwarding the interest of the township. — I am, itc, Onlooker.
