SUMMONSING FOR RATES.
Sir, —I see you state in your paper that the rate collector for the Wwlvillo Eoad Board is issuing summonses for back rates, but it is ruiqqr.e.cj tlyit he not is&uihg th,em bui getting a solicitor- to do the"vvoik. "'Will "the' WqoclvJUq Eoad npver- learn by experience. Why, I remember them doing the same thing before. A large number of defaulters were si mnoned through a solicitor, the ■ ' result was that the so? ; citor got all the rates received and all expenses allowed by the E.M., and then sent in an account to the Board claiming about ten pounds over and above the lot; and he settled, ,tho matter by accepting soveu povaHU aj payinoiu m r,af|, ttas by Mf i:! As far as I remember in the largo towns, the collector, who is paid to collect the rates, has also to sue all defaulters, and if he is not able to do his duty, they get some man who can without wasting the ratepayers' money. —I am, &c., Ante-Waste.
