(Press Association Telegrams.) MALICIOUS DAMAGE. Auckland, Oct. 22. An attempt has been made to cut down the suspension bridge across the cemetery gully. Several of the wire stays were cut as with a tomahawk. ASSAULT ON A MAORI WOMAN. A telegram from Rotorua states that an old Maori woman named Katewhatoo was shamefully beaten and kicked about by her nephew. The reason given by the man was that he kicked her about the legs to prevent her wandering about, as she was not sound in her mind. Her death is daily expected. TE WHITI. Wellington Oct. 22. The Government have received a telegram from New Plymouth stating that there is no truth in a rumour circulated on the West Coast that Te Whiti had ordered the Natives to plough up tho settlers land. There is some dispute among the Natives about the land titles, but it has no political significance, TROUT OVA. 10,000 trout ova, a present from the Lake Acclimatisation Society to Wellington, have been successfully placed in the Masterton hatching boxes. This is the largest shipment to the North Island ever attempted. They were brought by Mr Mackin from Queenstown to Masterton in three days. DARING ROBBERY ON A STEAMER. Auckland, Oct 23. Just as the Arawa was on the point of sailing for London, a curio dealer, James Glenny, who was dispensing curios to the firemen between the decks, was sullenly seized by a number of firemen in a dark corridor, and held and robbed of a watch, greenstone, gold quartz, &c., valued at £30. In the darkness he could not identify the robbers.
