NEW SURVEYS.
■» t — TO THE EDITOR OF THE INDEPENDENT. Sir, — I think «i great injustice is being done in this province, to old colonists especially, by new surveys being taken. For instance, a man comes out here 33 years ago, and after being here a few years aeleots-si-pioeo of land; and buya fch»land according to map drawn out, believing it to be his pi'operfcy. Not so, however. Another man comes out many I years afterwards and buys the piece adjoining. Of course he is a gentleman with influence. The new survey is taken j the old parallel lines are discarded ; a slice is taken off the poor old colonist's frontage, and a piece jn lieu is given off the gentleman's back — a high Government official, 1 too. If the poor man speaks about it he is threatened with law, and I don't know what, to the amount of hundreds ; yet if tho poor man will only keep quiet, the gentleman will not pound his cattle any more. Now, sir, will you point out the justice of this ; if it is justice, then I will hold my peace : if not, then I condemn it in toto. — I am, &c. A Young Man in the Country. August 11, 1873.
