(fro?* a correspondent.) Nelson, Wednesday. The meeting held here last night to consider the tariff was one of the largest ever held in Nelson. The tariff was very farorably received, a complete reaction having taken place. Mr Sclanders, merchant, hinted that Lnckie had been sent over as Vogel's lieutenant to smooth the way for the tariff. Luckie said if it were so, he would be a lieutenant serving ' under a captain of acknowledged ability ; but it was not so ; he had come over of his own accord to discuss the subject, and advocate not merely this tariff, but a system which would promote internal manufactures and employ our population. Respecting tho resolution, that the Government were undeserving of the support of tho Nelson metuburs if it did not gob authority for the construction of the Foxhill and Brnimcr line, Luckie said lie would do all ho could to promote the consU'ucLion of the line, as it would open up a country rich in mineral wealth, and which was also necessary as a through line — duo to the province and colony— and well guaranteed ; — but if he was asked to vote to oust the Ministry on such a point and put in the rump of the Stafford party, ho should distinctly refuse. No representative deserving of the name would submit to 3uch coercion, and rather than do so he would resign tomorrow. Tlu3 statement was applauded. The resolution' was carried. Tho meeting is considered a great success.
