. — <_. __ WANGANUI.— The "Herald" of the 9th has the following report : — Mr W. Finnimore reports having sold afc Upper Rangitikei on Thursday, 7th December, cattle aud sheep, as undor : — Morino ewes, shorn, 43 Gd ; halfbred ditto, 8s 3d ; wethers, Gs ; lambs, 5s 9d j pigs, from 2s 6d to 18s ; cows, £2 12:. 6d to £2 19s ; heifers, £2 12s Gd ; steers, two-year-old, £1 17s 6d ; yearlings, £1 9s ; calves, six months, 10s ; three-year-old steers and cows, £3 7s 6d ; trap and harness, 12s. This was ono of the mosfc largely attended sales ever held in the district ; the bidding was spirited, and everything passed off in tho mosfc satisfactory manner. Mr Finnimore also reports having sold on Friday, December Bth, at Mr 55. Mead's, three and four-year-old steers, in good condition, at £4 cash ; cows, £2 9s ; ateer3 and heifers, two-years old, £1 18s ; steers and heifers, mixed ages, £2 ; cows, £3. About 150 head were yarded at the fcwo sales, the whole of which wero disposed of. Tbey were in very low condition, wifch one exception. These wero yarded by Mr C. Galpin, being really fine stock. They reflected credit on the breeder. Dunedin. — Tho "Daily Time 3," of December 7, reports : — The past day or two has nofc •witnessed much briskness in the markets, the demand for goods looking rather duller than tißual afc the present time,' and few matters of any importance going forward. In the auction rooms, aB previously reported, somo fair sales have been carried through, and these havo been almost the only noticeable items. In oilmen's stores and dried fruits there is a moderately good business doing, and salos of malfc aud galvanised iron (English brands) are reported, but all afc quotations showing an unaltered state of the markets. In tho produce market there is generally slightly
firmer feeling. The amount of wheafc coming forward is light, and holders nre looking for 5s to 5s 3d, millers, however, declining to givo theso rates. Rather a better inquiry exists for oats, the value of good feeding lots beiug 2s to 2s ld. For flour a fair demand is also reported ; tbe town millers quote £13 as the rate for current transactions ; country millen appear to be accepting lesßer rates. Tlio same paper of December 6 reports : — Afc Me.sr.-_ M'Landress, Hepburn, and Co's rooms this afternoon, wero offered the new congous, ex Corj'pheus, from Foo Chow, recently transhipped to this port, and fche balance of the cargo of sugars, ex Union, from Hong Kong, mainly consisting of low samples. Partly owing to tho advance in sugars in the colonial markets, and perhaps as much to a better appreciation of fchis class of sugars, there was a fairly brisk competition, and the whole of them were cleared off at satisfactory rates. The amount of business dono in teas was not large, a result; not surprising whon it is considered thafc traders hold rather full supplies, and would scarcely care to increase stockß?at so near tho end of the year. Oa_JlA.eu.— The "Times" of December 8 reports : — The grain market still remains almost stagnant, bufc wo notice an improved inquiry for wheat, arising apparently from the shortness of the supply iv Dunedin, but tbo prices offered are under what holders demand. The following ar_ tho pricos obtainable: — Wheat, fit for milling, 4s 6d ; oats, bright feed, Is lOd ; inferior, Is 6d ; besfc flour, £12 10s to £13 per ton 5 inferior, £8 to £10, no considerable stock on band: oatmeal, £14; pollard, £4 ; bran, £3.
