MELBOURNE WOOL MARKET.
(From Goldsborough's Circular.) Wool. — At our weekly sale, held on Wednesday, Bth Nov., 5,049 bales were catalogued, of which quantity 4,065 were sold at auction and by private contract. The large quantity to be offered attracted a numerous attendance of buyer?, aud the prices obtained were fully equal to last week's quotations, — greasy ranging from 8d to Is 2£d, and fleece Is 4kl to 2s 4d per lb, one of tho lots recovered from tho wreck of the Loch Levon realising the latter figure. Several clips realised over 2a per lb, but these were superior lots in excellent order. The lots offered, ex Loch Leveu, were 425 bales in sound order, and 264 bales damaged, \h a . latter being sold at from £13 to £25 per bale. Tho Americans aro giving great support to the sales, and four ships are now laid on tho berth for Boston and New York, and filling rapidly. The importance of this new trade can scaively bo over estimated, and should the contemplated alteration in the American tariff bo carried into effoefc, it will no doubt assume extensive proportions, and result in making this city one of tho first wool marts in the world.
Sheepskins. — Our usual sales of tho week have been well attended, and wo have sold a large quantity of oil sorts, at similar rates to thole ruling last week. Butcher's skins realised from 3s 6d to 7s each, according to size and quality, and station dried skins from 4d to B}-d per lb. Hides. — The market has been well supplied, all offering being readily sold for local consumption at late prices. We have sold ox hides from 20s to 29s each, and cow hides from 133 to 20s each ; wefc salted, in good condition, are worth from 3fd to 4Vd per lb. Tallow. — At our sale on Tuesday we sold 300 casks of all descriptions at full prices, last week's rates being well maintained. We sold jrutton up to £31 17s (?d ; beef from £31 to £33; mixed from £32 to £33 10s; and inferior from £28 to £31 per ton. Hobaet Town.— The "Morcury" of the 14th ult., reports as follows:— The wheat and flour markets sre somewhat firmer consequent upon the advices from tho neighboring colonies, and tho disposition of speculators to ship to England. Flour is now quoted from £11 10s to £12, and bran at ]0d per bushel, Sharps aro steady at £7 per ton. Wheat is quoted from 5s 3d to 5s 6d per bushel, and oats range according to quality, from 2s 3d to 2s 9d per bushel. There is no English barlej in the market, and Cape is only in nominal demand at 2s 3d to 2s 6d per bushel. Peas sell at 3s 3d to 3s 6d per bushel. Maizo is quoted from 43 6d to 4«3 8d per bushel. The supply of hay is limited, and the quotation for pressed hay has advanced to £5. Whether this price will be maintained, must in a great measure depend on tho effect of tho late rain on tho growing crop. The market continues to bo fully supplied with old potatoes, and the quotations range from £1 10s to £2 per ton. Butter is in fair supply at 6d to 9d per lb for potted, and 8d to iOd for fresh. Bacon sells at 6d to 7d per lb, and ham at 7d to Bd. The market is fully supplied with sawn timber, palings, and shingles. Latjncesxon. — Tho Cornwall "Chronicle" of the 15th ult., cays :— Flour remains £10 10s to £11 per ton : wheat, 4s lOd to 5s per bushel ; feed oats at 2s 4d to 2s 6d per bushel ; English barley, 3s 6d per bushel ; fine sharps, £6 ; coarse ditto, £4 10s ; bran, £3 per ton. Potatoes of good quoHty aro rather scarce, wholesale, 25s to 30s per ton, 2s to 2s 33 per cwt. Now potatoes from Melbourne are on sale at 2d per lb. Hay, £2 to £2 5s por ton. Potted butter is quoted according to quality, from 4d to 8d per lb ; fresh butter is very plentiful at low rates — 5d to 6d wholesale, 6d to 7d retail. Eggs, 7d to 8d per dozen wholesale ; retail 9d to lOd per dozen.
