The barque Annie Melliuisb, Capt. Williams, from Newcastle, N.S.W., arrived in this harbor yesterday afternoon, after a passage of fourteen days. She experienced fine weather during the passage across, with the exception of a twelve hours' blow, and brings a cargo of coals for this port. We have to thank Captain Williams for his courtesy in furnishing us with files of Sydney papers up to the 16th instant. H.M. Basilisk, Captain Moresby, sailed yesterday evening, at 6 o'clock, for Sydney. She will probably bo away six or eight months ; and the Blanche will take her place on the New Zealand coast. The steamer City of Hobarfc lost a man overboard on the 14th ultimo, after clearing Sydney Heads. A sperm whale, measuring 63 feet long, apparently a considerable time dead, was washed ashore afc the Tom Thumb Lagoon, Wollongong, on the 14th November. There were two harpoons, with line and shaft attached, embedded in it when found. The harpoons are marked " Scorra, London." The Adeline, American whaler, arrived at Hobarfc Town on the 14th November, with 500 barrels of sperm oil, and 600 barrels of black. The steamer City of Adelaide is advertised in the " Sydney Herald" of the 15th Nov., for Auckland, to leave on the 21st ult. Captain Bennett, of the Aurora, has been acquitted at Sydney of the charge of flogging a seaman. The ship Annie Sise, from Sydney, with a cargo of coal, has been wrecked near San Francisco. The schooner Ann, Scott, master, from Melbourne, is a total wreck at the mouth of tha Eiver Inglis, on the North-weat Coast of Tasmania. Ihe crew are saved. The wreck has been condemned. The Insurance Companies decline any further risks on the sugar ship Delhi and Madura, now overdue at Sydney from Manilla. On and after to-day all vessels exempted from pilotage will (when practicable) be signalled as follows : — With the descriptive flag in case of a steamer j her name will also be hoisted. If a sailing vessel, the port whence she comes and her name may be ascertained by applying at the Harbor Master's office Unless the vessel approaching the Heads is flying an exemption flag, the pilot and boat's crew leave the station for the purpose of boarding her long before the signals could bo made out, in which case the deseriptivo flag can only be used as heretofore. — "Lyttolton Times," 29th. The three-masted schooner Rifleman, Capt. Toomey, late of (he Lady Don, left Lyttelton on November 10, for Havelock, and had not arrived up to yesterday. Her lengthened voyage is causing a little uneasiness, but, as Captain Toomey is nn excellent seaman, and one of our best coasting captains, it is thought that he has run for shelter from a heavy gale into some bay, and has been unable to get out again. We may add that no signs of any wreck have been seen on the coast by the s.s. Bangitira, which arrived last night. — " Lyttelton Times," 28th.
