Trinity Square, Tower Hill, 1, Postern Row, London, 10th June, 1871. /COMPLAINTS having been made to me of \j tho quality of Rums lately made up in this market by one or two houses, for shipment to Australia, I think it my duty to address you on tho matter, as I find the Rums complained of have been made up with Inrgo proI portions of Penang (East India Rum) nnd Mauritius, mixed with West India Rum, (hereby enabling the sellers to quote lower prices ; but the result of such a mixlue oan- - only give a coarse, raw ruin, utterly unsuited to tho requirements of Iho Colonies, and far below the quulity of the Rums hitherto shipped from this market. For many years past, aud up to the liquidation of tbe old Grm of Lemon Hart. & Son in the latter part of last year, I personally at* tended to the vatting of all Rums sent out by that firm ; and iv making up my Rums now for Australia, my aim is at least to equal tho standard of quility which I always prepared for that market, and which was so well known I have no connection with the gentleman who purchased tho assets of the old firm from the trustee ; and who now trades in tho name of Lemon Haht & Sox, at George e'reefc, Tower Hill; aud no Rum is prepared b} r me except that branded only " Li;mon Hakt's Rum, London." As with Rums hearing my brand I U3e only Demerara and West India Ruins, I in ull cases hand a dock certificate with invoice At same tiir.e, where buyers may require a lower quality, I am always prepared to submit much lower prices, but without my full brand. Yours faithfully, LEMON HART. Trinity Square, Tower Hill, 1, Postern Row, London, 12tb July, 1871. DEAR, SIR —My attention has been called to a circular dated 241h March, 1871, appearing in the "Journal of Commerce of Victoria," dated Melbourne, 181 h May, 1871. This circular purports to be issued by tho now extinct firm of Lemon* ITaiit & Sox, and is evidently designed to induco tho belief that it emanates from the former partners of that firm, and that the business is still carried on by them. I hasten, therefore, to inform you that such is not the fact ; that the old firm of Lemon Hart & Son no longer exists, having been dissolved in November last ; that I, its senior partner, am no party to the circular issued in my late firm's namo, and have no interest whatever in the business there inferred to, having established myself under the namo of Lemon Hart & Co. at the above address; and lliat. tho circular above referred to emanates from Mr White, of Tenby, who, having bought the assets of tho lalo firm at a fixed sum, thus unwarrantably assumes to use its mime and title. The further statement in tho above circular, as to the staff who have been ppeciully employed in tho preparation of tho Hum shipped by my late firm, refers to the retention of one or two dock clerks, whose only business, aa emplojes, was to cavry out the instructions given either by my late father or myself, the secret of the whole matter being of course Iho judicious selection of the various kinds of Rum required for the purpose, which is only to be arrived at by many years of experience ; and I need not add that, this part, of tho business was not done by tho "staff," but by myself. All Rum shipped by mo will be branded "Lemon Hakt's Rum, London." I beg to enelos* you my circular of the 10th Juno, in regeronce to this matter, and to the quality of tho Rum lately shipped from hero by one or two houses. Faithfully yours, LEMON HART.
