THE WOOL MARKET.
On September 21, Measrs Jacomb write : — The fourth serieß of public sales of colonial wools for the current year, opened on the 14th instant, is in progress, and will close about the 11th of October. Prior to the sales this market had worn a firm appearance, and an animated inquiry had resulted in considerable Baleß by private contract at an advance on previous rates. At the opening of tho public auctions, both the home and foreign trades were numerously represented, and with very brisk competition prices showed an advance of Id to lid per lb. on the close of tho July sales for all washed wools, the advance being most marked in good sccmred wools from all ports and in all deep-stapled parcels from Port Philip and New Zealand ; wools in tho grease have sold at a trifling advance on July prices. Cape wools have been eagerly competed for at rates Id to 2d over the best of July. Thus far the progressing sales have confirmed and improved upon the opening rates, and good washed New Zeaiands and Victorians of fair staple have been sold, in some instances, at an advanoe of from 2d to 3d per lb. over July priceß.
