LATEST SPECIAL TELEGRAMS.
By the arrival of the Tararua we have more complete and later telegrams of the news received by the Suez mail steamer. The following is the latest special telegram to the " Argus:"-— London, September 4. The Queen's health is causing great anxiety. Mr Gladstone, at Whitby, in replying to the working men's address, vindicated the late Ministerial policy. There is fine harvest weather, but the wheat crop is deficient. Money is abundant. The rate of discount is unaltered. ■Walter Montgomery, the actor, ha 9 committed suicide. The Brindisi and the Nevada's mails were delivered together, and the August telegrams from Australia are now com ing through. Reuter's latest unpublished telegram, per Greville's Telegram Company, gives the following: — London, Sept. 4. Via Galle, S.pt. 5. A large meeting took place yesterday, in Phoenix Park, Dublin. The crowd attacked the police, wounding fifty of them. Her Majesty the Queen is again indisposed. The following are published as special telegrams: — London, August 18. The Bank of Australasia has declared a dividend of 9 per cent. The question of "wool consignment by Australian banks is revived. The practice is defended by the bank directors on the ground of a saving of mer chants' commission. London, August 29. The Queen's visit to Inverary is postponed through her illness. Great rejoicing took place on the return of the Marquis of Lorn, when the " Campbells' present" to the Princess Louise of a diamond necklace, worth 14,000 guineas, was made. Sir Alexander Campbell represented Australia. The bill providing a new court for colonial appeals has been passed. Renforth was seized with apoplexy, and died, whilst rowing in the AngloCanadian race. London, Sept. 2. A brisk correspondence is still proceeding in the " Times'" relative to consignments of wool to the Australian banks. The action of the banks is defended by the Chairman of the Bank of Australasia and by Sir Daniel Cooper. The wool market is satisfactory. A pamphlet called " Prussia in the East' has appeared, in which is stated a plan of Bismarck, allied with Russia, to seize Egypt, Trieste, and Antwerp, while Bussia will occupy Hindostan. On the '24th inst, the reserve of notes in the Bank of England was 14,687,0002 Total bullion, 25,437,000Z Captain Vivian was appointed, on the 130 th ultimo, Under Secretary of State for War, in place of Sir Edward Lugard, who is appointed first commissioner for the settlement of purchase claims.
