In consequence of an article in the " Evening Star " journal Morrin assaulted and horsewhipped Mr Utting of the " Herald " in the theatre. As ifc was found that Utting was not the writer, Morrin made a humble apology. On the following day Mr JNeville Walker entered the " Star " office and struck Mr Brett on the chin. The latter retaliated briskly and knocked one of Walker's teeth out, giving him a good beating, He also laid an information for assault, and Walker was fined £10 and bound over to keep the peace for six months. The " Herald " urges the establishment of a tri weekly mail service beteen Ohinemuri and Tauranga, with an armed escort if necessary. It estimates the cost at £20 a week, and urges the banks, merchants, and insurance agents to subscribe to enable Greville aud Co. to initiate the service. The Albert barracks have been tempoiarily converted into a hippodrome, and a grand stand has been erected. The share market continues depressed. Another meeting will be held shortly, to which the Governor will be invited. The principal things discussed by old Panuitanga, Katii Ruiri.were telegraphs, roads, &c. Nothing was decided last night. A letter has been received from Ngapihi — the Bay of Island friendlies — demanding Todd's murderers this morning. The friendlies were detained to discuss the question. Neither Manuhiri or Tawhiao took part in the meeting, Manga and Kaihnana Wahanui, the principal speakers, were Kingites. 10.10 a.m. The uative meeting has concluded. Tho .
