CHBISTCHtraCH.— The "Lyttelton Times' 1 ! of Saturday has the folio-wing report of tho local produce market :— Our produce market remains without alteration, transactions being few and unimportant in extent. One or two email sales of superior milling wheat have been effected at 5s 3d, at which figure holders are endeavoring to make a stand. Buyers, - however, are difficult to obtain, so that quotations are almost nominal. Flour stands at £ls net. cash for leading brands ; stocks are '.heavy, and no doubt concessions would bo V..3^&do for a parcel. Oats of really good qua-lity-are wanted.afc 2s 7d ; the farmers, however, appear taWwell cleared out, as few lots are offeting. Butteiv continues in active request at 7d to'"^i Potatoes find a ready snip at £2 10s to £2 15<?. Cheese is almost unsaleable at 3^-d to 4d. No demand of any importance has transpired for hams and bacon ; stocks increasing. Otago.— The Daily Times, of August 28, reports^:— Since the receipt of the mails there Lns been a much better feeling exhibited in the markets us the time of the year and nearness of the end of the month would admit of. The arrival of the ships William Davie, Shun Lep, and G-auieeock, haee added to stocks, and the placing and delivery of shipments by these vessels will impart a little activity to the next two or three weeks' business. Hennessy's brandies are quoted at 7s 3d to 7s 6s, an'l 31s. A steady trade has been done in tea?, recent sales bein£» chiefly of medium to fine congous; the dem-nid for the latter having rather incrensrd. Quittances havo been made of fine at Is ]OJd to 2s, according to packages ; .and of fair "mediums at Is 7|d. _ For balveP, the enquiry for low sorts is still very small.
