TO THE EDITOB OP THE INDEPENDENT. Sic, — In your issue of the Bth inst you state that when I failed I owed Mr Crawford nearly £100, for goods which I had recently received from him. Now Sir, in the first place, I only owed Mr Crawford about £80 when I filed my schedule, and instead of getting those goods so recently as stated in your paper, it was a balance of a running ac« count for goods which I had received within the last ten months, and the last lot of goods that I received from Mr Crawford, to the amount of £17 10a, was on the 24th of December, 1870. On the 12th of January, 1871, I paid him £12 on that account. You also state that I was not pressed by any of my creditors. By referring to the " Wairarapa Mercury" of the 24th January, 1871, you will find that I was sued by John Giles and others for the sum of £47 19s, and their getting judgment for a portion of that amount, and disputing claims I had against them, and also applying for an execution; and general depression of trade, with other losses, caused me to take the course I did. I will not intrude upon any more of your valuable space. — I am, &c, Thomas Bbnnett.
Carterton, May 10, 1871. [The remarks referred to were in a correspondent's letter, for which, wo are not responsible.—Ed. W.l.]
