[From the New Zealand Herald. May 6.] The following is the telegraphic message from Grahamstown on Saturday evening : — The Caledonian lodged 6440z of gold, being the result of five days' crushing of the general stuff at the Herald machine. More specimens were taken out from the Nonpareil this evening. Scrip in the Caledonian has been sold at £115; Tookey, £12 10s; Nonpaieil, £4 4s ; Kelly's, £3 ss ; Belfast, £2 ss; Red Queen, &s. Nonpareil. — Very superior stone has been broken out of the winze yesterday and to-day. The lode as it is followed down improves in quality and increases in size. It is between 2ft and 3ft thick, and shows gold continually. Tookey's Tribute No 4 — Willis and party have dropped into an exceedingly good thing. Twenty-three tons of stone have been broken out by them, and crushed on trial at the Tramway machine, the result, so far being 3200zs of hard squeezed amalgam. Goodall's Machine. — Lowe and party (Tookey's Tribute No l)have had another lot of 10 tons crushed, to a return of 1 5oz of gold. Eight tons from Carew and party, who are working in 40ft level of Tookey's shaft, gave 4oz ; whilst Hamilton and party (No. 2 # Tookey's tribute) obtained ljoz from one ton crushed on trial. The trial batteries are now engaged in reducing an 80 ton lot from Bendigo Independent mine at the head of the Monataiari Creek ; and 10 tons from the Tweedside mine, Hape. Moanataiari Machine. — Two.batter- - ies are working for the Long Drive Company, one for the Manakau mine, two for the Poverty and Charleston tribute, and one for the Pickwick — at claim on the Euranui Spur once knows as the Kuranui Star. There has been quite a run on Poverty and Charleston scrip. to : day, and the cause, I believe, is to be found in a general improvement of the stuff getting by the tributers: and also that a lot of specimens were broken o,ut today. .1 howover do not think that anything has occurred to warrant extreme speculation.
