NATIVE INTELLIGENCE.
EMISSARIES FROM THE KING A Raglan correspondent of the " Cross" says : — Sundry chiefs of the King party (whose names I shall endeavor to get before the mail closes) came over here yesterday from Kawhia to try to persuade the Raglan Kupapas — the Taenui especially — to join the Kingites. They (the Hauhaus) say that the Ngatiraukawas have joined the Queen, and given up their arms to Mr M'Lean, and that the Taranakis have acted in the same way with Mr Pavris. TRADE WITH HAUHAUS. During the past week the town has been overun with Hauhaus and pigs, and all sorts of guesses were made as to the influx. Most of the grunters were only half grown ; and Maoris, under any circumstances, do not sell them when so small. The reason of the rush as 'explained to me by a Haubau- was that they heard the Government intended to go to war unless Mr Todd's murderers were given up, and they came in at once to get what clothes, &c, they wanted before the roads were closed against them. In all likelihood their information was derived from a letter written by Hetaraka Nero (now in Auckland) to Hapoko te Koutku herp, in which Hetaraka stales (nnder the seal of secresy) that be and Mr M'Lean have settled it that a steamer go into Kawhia as once. Of course the secresy observed does not deserve particular commedation. Our Hauhau friends by-the-by (Ngatimaniapotos) have not the slightest wish to fight. COLLISION BETWEEN TE KOOTI AND THE KING PARTY. The " Tnranaki Herald" of the 15th says ; — At Opunake a report is current that the King party and Te Kooti and his followers, have had a fight, so writes our correspondent, and that Te Kooti has got the worst of it, several of bis men having been killed. The cause of this attack, it appears, has arisen from a determination on the part of the King to punish Te Kooti for his insolence when he visited the head-quarters of his Majesty Tawhiao, some twelve months or so since.
