Lyttelton, 15th : 9.40 a;tn., Alhambra, from Wellington. Two bottles strung together, and securely sealed, have been washed on to the beach at Hayle, Cornwall, one of them containing three letters directed to Hamburg, and two sixpences to defray the cost of postage. The other bottle contained a pint of rum to recompense the finder for his trouble in posting the letterß, which are from the Danish brig Anne Georgian*, bound to La Guayra. The Hokitika channel now tends directly north, the South Spit, for a considerable distance, running parallel with the north beach. This renders towing vessels inside dangerous, imless the 6ea be remarkably smooth, as the channel is very narrow, and a vessel struck on the beam by a sea can scarcely escape going ashore. — "Westland Independent."
