CRICKET.
The return match between the Star Club and the Oaxton Club was played on the Cricket ground, Te Aro, on Saturday afternoon, and resulted in a second defeat for the Oaxton Club. The play on the Star side was quite up to their usual proficiency in tho game, their fielding being _rst-cla3S. The representatives of the Government office showed some improvement, the bowling being very fair, and the batting very good, in so far as the defence of the wicket was concerned, but the little weakness of skying the ball has yet to be overcome, seven of the wickets taken in the first innings being catches. There is yefc a great improvement to be made in their fielding before they can hope to win a match against a good eleven, a good deal of carelessness being exhibited in the fielding of Saturday. Little interest was exhibited in the second innings of the Caxtons, as the gamo was decided on their first. The following is fche score : — CAXTONS.— MRST INNINGS.
