MR WATERHOUSE MR PHARAZYN.
«. TO THE EDITOB OF THE INDEPENDENT. Huangaroa, 2nd Feb. 1871. Sic,— Mr Charles Pharazyn's letter of the 26th inst. contains a misstatement that I feel called upon to natice. Mr Pharazyn says— "Mr Waterhouse has actually written a letter to the ' Mercury ' to say that he did not mean to accuse me of doing wrong." Mr Pharazyn apparently draws upon bis imagination for his facts, for I have never written any such letter, nor any letter capable of such an interpretation. In tho only letter I have written to the " Mercury " upon the subject, I expressly stated that " I regard the whole proceeding as reprehensible in the extreme," and in che same letter I referred fco ifc as " a wrong action." I oa Jp> however, that I did nofc believe that MP-'harazyn afc the time considered he was acting improperly, for I was charitable enough to be of opinion thafc ifc was his misfortune rather than hie fault, that a proceeding, which, in the eyes of every right thinking and honorable man, unacquainted wifch the circumstances of fcho case, must appear highly improper, was not so regarded by him. — I am, kc, G. M. Watebhotjse.
