(Before J. C. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) ASSAULT. Henry Day was placed in the dock, charged with assaulting John Street. The complainant stated that he belonged to the steamship Phc.be, and that about 6 o'clock on Monday evening the prisoner came on board, and asked to see the chief officer. Witness thereupon informed him that he could not do so at present, the mate being at tea, and that he would have to wait for a short time. The prisoner refused to do so, and tried to force his way into the saloon. Witness prevented him, and the chief officer, coming up, ordered prisoner ashore. Prisoner, who was the worse for liquor went, and witness followed. When on the wharf, prisoner seized him, dragged him off the gangway, and pulled him about with such force as to severely injure his shoulder and cut his head. Tho prisoner, who made a rambling statement, was fined £5 with the alternative of a month's imprisonment.
