SHIPPING SUMMARY.
Since our last shipping summary there has been but little to record, no vessels from England having arrived. Several coal ships from Newcastle, N.S.W., have come in during the past month, and others are expected. The N.Z.S.N. Co.'s s.s. Wellington having been taken up by the Government, sailed on the 22nd March for Auckland, ■whore she arrived on the 25th with his Excellency the Governor, Lady Bowen, and suite on board. Our last summary via Panama was despatched by the Koyal Mail steamer Ruahine on the Bth March, and by the Tararua which sailed from here on tho 20th of the same month, the Now Zealand mail for Europe, India, and China, was forwarded for transmission bj way of Gallo. lho February English mail via Panama reached us on the afternoon of the 26th ult., it being brought in the R.M.S. Mataura, which made an excellent passage from Panama, bringing also an unusually large number of passengers, and the following birds, for the Auckland Acclimatisation Society : —4 golden pheasants, 2 Mandarin ducks, 2 Carolina do, 16 partridges, 22 starlings, 24 blackbirds and thrushes. 30 linnets and chaffinches, 16 skylarks. The birds have arrived in capital order, having experienced remarkably fine weather right throughout the voyago from England. Tho January mail by way of Melbourne and Suez only readied us on the 2nd April. The Commodore, Captain Colville, from London, having discharged her inward cargo, is now ready for sea. She proceeds to Newcastle under charter to the Panama Company, to load coals for Opara. The Leichhardt, Cnptain Phillips, is rapidly loading wool for London, and will sail bofore the end of the current) month. The ever favorite and regular trader Wild Duck. Captain Bishop, took her departure for England on the 23rd March, having on board as passengers :— Mr, Mrs, Miss, and Master Alexander, Mr Alexander, and Master Browne, Mrs McCredy and family (6), Miss lledwood, Mesßrs Walker, Bretherton, Clowe, Thackeray, and Everton.
