Memorial to thk Late Mrs Hobhoitse. — An inlaid brass tablet, beautifully executed, has boon sent from England by Bishop Hobhouse, to be erected in tlio porch of tho church at Springgroyo, Nelson, recently erected by him in memory of his late wife. Tho tablet bears the following inscription in Gothic black letter, with rubricated initials :— " This porch was built by Ednnind ; fir3t Bishop of Nelson, in loving memory of hit wife, Mary Elizabeth Hobhouso, whose soul was required, October 12, 1864." Bears in Otago. — A. brown bear, brought tc Otago from] Vancouver's Island by tho com mander of the ship Parisian, hua been purchased by Mr S. G. Isaacß, and has become so lame thai it will follow its new owner about like a dog, ant eat from his hand. European Flax Cuitubb. — The Ida Zfiiglei brought a parcel of twenty barrels of Europeai flax seed, ordered from England by the Provin cial Government of Auckland, with the view o : testing whothor or not European flax can be pro fit ably cultivated in this country.
