UNJUST TREATMENT OF VOLUNTEERS.

(TO THE EDITOE OP THE INDEPENDENT.) Sir, — Reviewing in your valuable paper the rapid advancement of the volunteer cause in Wellington at prosent, as a volunteer I connot In-lp thinking that the Government are at tho present time depressing the spirit of the cause elsewhere, I would take for instance tho llangitikei district, •where there are several volunteer corps that have been supporting the cause for some years past. On the 30th of June last these corps were entitled to tho usual capitation allowance for the previous year's service, all document?, &c. were rendered to Government and the money was to be paid forthwith, but the time for payment has not yet arrived. I may also stale Mr Editor that suitable uniforms were to be adopted by the whole of these corps in that district a3 soon a<^, the money was received, which has been applied for, and which i 9 now past due several months. Uniforms, &c, for volunteering corps tend greatly to uphold the spirit of the cause, and surely if Government consider the services of such corps of any value or assistance to their respective districts they ought to pay willingly, when due, what little is allowed to maintain them. I will not further encroach on your valuable columns Mr Editor — only hoping that Government will see the utility (that is if they would wish to see the volunteer cause prosper in all districts) of paying the Rangitikei Volunteers what is justly their due. Volunteer.
