VICTORIA.

We have, news from Melbourne to the 14th instant.

The dispute between the two houses of the Legislature has not yet been adjusted. The vote of £20,000 to Lady Darling was bronght on for discussion in the Legislative Assembly on the 9th inst, and passed. A debate took place in the Legislative Council upon the Governor's message recommend ing the grant, and an amendment to the proposition for concurring in the address was agreed to. In it his Excellency was reminded that the custom in compliance with which her Majesty was advised to recommend to each House in the first instance exceptional grants formed no counterpart to the recommendation to the Legislative Council to concur in a grant to which that body had already informed his Excellency it entertained grave objections. The address concluded with an assurance that whenever the proposed grant to Lady Darling was sent up in such a manner as would not preclude the Council from giving effect to their opinions upon it, they would be prepared to give it their earnest and serious consideration.

Great preparations ere being made to give a handsome reception to the Duko of Edinburgh, and the columns of the newspapers are largely occupied with the details and suggestions. From intelligence brought by a vessel which had just arrived from Mauritius, it seems that the inhabitants of that island do not now expect to be visited by the Prince. Heavy floods have occurred in the country at Echuca and other places.
