She was detained in Auckland one day to await the arrival of the Lord Ashley with the mails. The s.s. Tararua came alongside the Queen'B 'Vhirf on Saturday, the 7tli instant, at 11 a.m. dhc left Melbourne at 2 p.m. on the 28th ultimo, and passed through the Heads at 5 p.m., leaving Swan Island at 2 p.m., on the 29th. Experienced frosh westerly winds on the passage down. Eased engines at 4 p.m., on the Ist mat., and entered the Bluff Harbor at daylight on the 2nd ; left at, 4.30 p.m. on the 3rd, and arrived at Port Chalmers at daylight on the 4th 5 loft again on r,he sth, at 4 p.m., and reached Lyttelton at 8.30 a.m. on the 6th. J lefG again at 5 p.m., and arrired as above. Wo are indebted to the puraer for files. The s.B. Airedale, Captain Kennedy, arrived from the South at noon on Saturday, bringing a large number of passengers. We are indebted to the courtesy of the purser for files. Tub Astekope Sighted. — The Canterbury Press of the 31st ult., says :— " The ship Blu v Jacket, Captain James White, arrived in Lyttelton harbor yesterday from London, after a splendid run of 'seventy-Bix days. Shortly after leaving England on the 15th June, she spoke the ship Asterope bound for Wellington." Ctjtteb Edith. — Messrs Gudgeon & Co, of Wanganui, have sold this little vessel, of abont fifteen tons burthen, for the sum of £65. She will henceforth trade regularly between Wanganui and Patea.
