TOWN BOARD.
The Town Board held a special meeting yesterday at its offices, at 2 o'clock to hear appeals againsb the new rate. Members present, J. Dransfield Esq. chairman, and Messrs. Bishop, Borlaso, Mills, Plimmer and Quin. Letters had been received from fcwo ratepayers, appealing against the assessment and stating tho grounds on which they appealed. Mr. E. Smith said that his property on Lambton Quay had been assessed , at a larger sura proportionately than that at which property adjoining belonging to Mr. Bishop had been assessed and that although the assessment was tho same eb it was last year, he had boon enable to appeal then. Mr. A. Allen, the other appellant, pleaded over assessment, be said that his now house in Hillstreet, had been valued before it was finished, at £100 more than it had cost to erect. The two appellants then withdrew. The Board took the appeals into consideration and after a little discussion the assessment of Mr, Smith's property was reduced from £750 to £500 and that of Mr. Allen's house from £600 to £500. The Commissioners thon separated.
