LIEUTENANI-GOVERNORS.

There is a Bill now before the House which

appears to meet general approvol ; but not naviag a copy we are at some loss to understand it. Tbe Nominated Superintendents Bill having been thrown out, Mr Fitzgerald has introduced a Bill enabling every province to have a Lieutenant-Governor if it wishes.

under certain circumstances. Not knowing what those circumstances are we cannot express any opinion on the measure, and merely give the pailiamentary report as we find it.

(Nov. 27.) Mr Fitzgerald rnoted for leave to bring in a bill lor the appointment bf Lieu-tenant-Governors, under certain circumstances, within the colony of New Zealand. Tbe object ofthe measure was simply to authorise the appointment of a Lieutenant-Governor in any province which desired it.

Mr Stafford cordially supported the motion, having been made aware of the provisions contained in the bill. He thought no better plan could be proposed for the effective admin-

istration of the Government.

Mr Fitzherbert also supported the bill, seeing in it the solution of a great many difficulties.

Leave granted. Bill read a first time and ordered to be read a second time on Wednesday next.

We notice that Mr Eyes has brought in a Bill to assimilate lhe election of Superintendents for the Provinces created under the " New Provinces Act," with that for those elsewhere —giving to the Province and not to the Council the right to choose the Superintendent.

(Nuv. 27.) Mr Eyes in moving for leave to bring in a bill to amend tbe New Provinces Act, 1858, said Mr Saunders had consented to withdraw his bill for the repeal of this Act. Tbe present bill would be a virtual repeal of the measure as far as its future operations were concerned ; but he proposed to retain some clauses and insert others assimilating tbe election of Superintendent in the new provinces already constituted to the mode in use in other provinces.

Leave granted. Bill read a first time, and ordered to be read a second time on Wednesday next.
