LOOK AT HOME.

During ber late stay in Auckland, the Bangatira spent a couple of days pleasuring. On the first she took a couple of hundred of the elite to spend the day at the Governor's Island Estate of Kawau, and on the second she took five or six hundred ofthe city folk on a visit to the Himalaya and North Shore. Such courtesies as these are never lost, and the few pounds which they cost are as seed which sooner or later is sure to produce a return— "courtesy costs nothing and gains many friends" is as true when applied to Companies as to individuals. But we may perhaps be allowed to remind the Directors ofthe N.Z.S. >J . Company, that while it i 3 very judicious to be courteous abroad, it is no less so to be equally as good natured at home. We do not recollect a single occasion in which any of the Company's boats have made a day's pleasure trip outside the harbour, or given the public the opportunity of an excursion to Palliser Bay, Port Underwood, the Sound, Mana, or any other of the numerous spots tbat happen to be within the compass of twelve hours steaming. Nor has the Company, so far as we recollect, afforded the opportunity of visiting the other provinces at what are called excursion rates. During the coming Christmas and New Year holidays, they might, with advantage to all parties, give a trip or two on the model of that which the Inter-Colonial Company gave someyears ago, — a day's trip to Picton and back (or elsewhere) for a few shillings. The Company would probably gain in a pecuniary sense and tbey would certainly not lose by it in any other. Then again wby should they not issue return tickets to any province, available for one or perhaps two trips during tbe holidays, at prices not only not more than a single fare but even at less. Putting it on purely money grounds the Company would be gainers in the end : besides which they ought to be as ready to oblige those at home as, we are happy to see, they are those abroad.
