NELSON.
The paddle steamer Sturt, Captain Walker, from Nelson via Picton, arrived in this harbor last night, at half-past 8 o'clock. She sailed from kelson on Monday night, and has been detained in Queen Charlotte's Sosnd in consequence of the heavj S.E. gales. She brings no news of importance. The Lady Bird sailed from Nelson for Sydney on Monday last. The Stint passed the Manakau and Wonga in the Straits, and saw a brig standing to the northward. The news from the Buller diggings is most encouraging. The Supreme Court was hold* ing its quarterly sittings at Nelson. The calendar was rather a heavy one. Hone Fokiki, a native, was tried for the murder of William Grant, at the Pelorus, on the 10th May last, found guilty and sentence of death passed upon him. The Christy's were drawing crowded houses. The brigantine Elizabeth, from Melbourne, arrived at Nelson on the 15th inst.. and conveyed intelligence of the arrival of the Himalaya at Hobson's Bay to that port.
