NELSON.

By the Lady Bird our files from this Province are to the 10th inst.

THE ONE HONDBED AND EIGHT OUN(_fIE NUGGET. The alleged discovery of tbis nugget turns 'Out to be untrue. The correspondent of the '-Colonist writes: — The tale of the 108 ounce Nugget, which found its way into the Nelson with such a strong array of circumstantial evidence, is iv naval parlance, a " shave." There never was such a thing at the port ; and I think you may take it for granted tbat when such a nugget is turned up on the diggings, it will not' be long in turning itself up at headqiarters, and reaching Nelson. There is no doubt truth in the fact, that the party of Irishmen who are reported to have made this visionary find, have done, and are doing very well ; but there is the usual exaggeration in such cases. Stories gel into the mouths of Maoiies, and they lose nothing by tbe telling, for the native has an amazing love of the marvellous, and in such cases requires but very few facts on which to found a very agreeablelooking fiction. I have learned to doubt very much the truth of these rumors until I bave seen either the corpus delicti or very good evidence of its existence. There is a rumor of a sixty ounce nugget said to be found by the same party, but I doubt the fact. Probably they have some large pieces of gold, but I want better evidence tban I have yet received. The Nelson Regatta is fixed for 29th Dec. next.

Ou the 9th inst. a general holiday was held in Nelson, in celebration of the birthday of the Prince of Wales.
