ARRIVAL OF THE "ALDINGA" WITH EUROPEAN NEWS TO THE 29th JUNE.
LATER FROM AMERICA. THE NORTHERN STATES AGITATING FOR PEACE. GREAT ROWING MATCH BETWEEN GREEN AND CHAMBERS. Daily Times Office, , Dunedin, August 17* I 12, Noon. ! The s.s. Aldinga arrived at Port Chalmers at 8 a.m. Captain Stewart reports that the Wonga Wonga was telegraphed as having arrived at Glenelg at 6 p.m. oni Sunday, 9th instant., expecting arrival of tbe Northam with the mail. The Aldinga waited antil 6 p.m. on tbe 1 ltb inst., and from Queenscliff telegraphed Cape Otway, which is seventy miles distant, but up to that time there was no appearance of tbe mail steamer. As a strong head wind prevailed and continued to blow for three days afterwards, it was not expected that the Northam would arrive before noon on Wednesday, and if then arrived, the Alhambra was to be despatched with the New Zealand Mail on the 14th. We append a summary of the news as telegraphed from Adelaide.
