ARRIVAL OF THE "GEENLONG."
j _ - [The following appeared in an Independent Extra on Friday morning.] The paddle-steamer Geelong, Captain Boyd, ; from Otago via Lyttelton, arrived in port this irorning. She left Dunedin on Monday, the 17th inst., arrived at Lyttelton on Wednesday morning, sailed from thence at 1 p.m., and ' arrived here at 8 a.m of the 21st August. She ! experienced fine weather to Lyttelton, but encountered a gale of wind off the Kai Koras, 1 which lasted for 14 hours. The I.C.R.M. Company's steamer Auckland hence, arrived at Otago on Monday last, in time for the mails to be forwarded per Aldinga 1 to Melbourne. The Geelong passed the Lady Bird on Tuesday night last, off Pigeon Bay, bound for t Otago. •The Geelong has 120 Volunteers for Taranaki, under the superintendence of Mr Flemming, and proceeds there to-day. The Volunteers are a fine body of men, and will no doubt give a good account of themselves when their services are brought into requisition. The Aldinga brought intelligence of the arrival of the European mail at Adelaide. Tbe following telegraphic summary is extracted from a Daily limes Extra of the 17th inst.
