In Mitchell's Maritime Register of April, we find the following additional vessels loading for New Zealand : — Lanarkshire, C 47 tons, Western, at the West India Dock. Kirkland, 460 tons, Colledge, at the London Dock. Ismay, 422 tons, for Canterbury.
I The Asterope, which left Wellington on January 11th arrived at Start, on April 10th. . ' The Queen of the of the Mersey which left Lyttelton on January 18th. arrived at Fahnouth, on April 19th. Tho Witch of the Tees had also arrived from New Zealand. The clipper ship Ceres, one of Messrs. Houlder Brothers and Co.'s regular line of vessels, sailed from Gravesend for Port Phillip on March 26, with a large and valuable collection of birds, &c, belonging to the Acclimatisation Society of Victoria, with accommodation specially fitted up for the purpose and presented to tne society, free of charge, by the firm above referred to. This is the second shipment made this year. During the month of March, eight vessels sailed from Great Britain to New Zealand. The Curacoa, screw frigate, now completing her storing and out-flt in the steam basin at Portsmouth, will shortly be commissioned by Captain W. Wiseman, as Commodore's ship on the Australian Station, in the room of the Orpheus. Commodore Phillimore, joins the Curacoa as her commander. The Victory, Captain Gibbons, sailed from Glasgow for Otago on the 17th' April ; on the same day the Brothers' Pride, Rudcliffe, cleared out from London for the same destination. The ship Owen Glendower was advertised to sail from London, from Auckland direct, on 30th ApriL All eligible persons proceeding by this vessel are informed that they will receive grants of land of 40 acres. The Tybumia, 1227 tons, Coate (or the Queen of the Mersey) and the Annie Wilson, 1118, Duckett, are advertised to sail for Albertland, with the remainder of the 2000 settlers (under the auspices of the Christian Colonization Society) from the East India Docks, on 28th May. The Emigration Commissioners invite tenders on the 23rd instant, for the conveyance of emigrants to Canterbury — ship to be ready between the 15th and 22nd of June. Some are to be landed at Timaru.— Mitchell's Maritime Register, April 18. The Asterope, 601 tons, Mitchell, was (April 17) discharging at the West India Dock. ■ The tonnage loading on the berth for India, China, and the Cape of Good Hope, amounts to 40,900 tons, and that for Australia and New Zealand, to 41,000 tons. — M. M. Register, April 18. Oaptuhe by the Vanderbilt of the Peterhoer — A letter dated the 3rd of April, was received at Lloyd's this day (April 18), from their agentfon board the Peterhoff, bound fer Matamoras. He recounts the capture of the British steamer Peterhoff, by the United States steamer Vanderbilt on .the 25th February, and states that she vras,brought, into New York on the • 28th. He, with the captain, the mate, three passengers; and others, were taken into custody by the deputy marshal, who conveyed thsin ■ to the House. of Detention, . where they were incarcerated for three days without any baggage. The Government Emigration Commissioners have chartered the ship British Crown, 1100 tons, at £14 14s per statute adult, for the conveyance of distressed Lancashire . operatives to Canterbury, New Zealand, a portion of their passage money having be'en remitted by the Provincial Government The British Crown was to leave Birkehhead on ihe 3rd of May. The Eobert Small has also been chartered for a Bimilar object, and is to sail from Southampton for Melbourne. Passage money for statute adults £14 125. — Seme Neios. It is reported at Portsmouth, on good authority, that the iron-plated squadron will proceed to Bermuda as soon as retdy for sea. The squadron consists of the Warrior. 40. screw frigate, Captain the Hon. A. A. Cochrane; the Black Prince, 40, screw frigate, Captain J. F. B. Wainwright; the Defence, 16, screw ram, Captain A. Phillimore; and the Besistance, 16, screw ram, W. C. Chamberlain.—Home News, April 26.
