There have been a few failures, but they have not been of an important character. The news from tfce diggings is not so satisfactory as it was some months ago, and the failures alluded to, have been of those who are engaged in business at the diggings. On the otber hand, however, there is a fair demand for goods for the neighboring colonies of Queensland and New Zealand, partioularly to the latter colony, which is now having its rush of diggers, and this has materially tended to relieve our surplus stocks, otherwise prices must have ruled much lower. The following is tbe latest report of our markets. Fiour. — The market is still very dull, aud some heavy shipments from San Franoisco aud Adelaide, which have lately arrived, have caused prices to give way about 20s per ton. Mauritius sugars range as follows :— Brown, £22 t o £25 . yellow, £80 to £33 ; orystals, £37 to £40. Nothing of a speculative character has shewn itself since last monthly report and our quotations are about the same. The same remark may also apply to the Cigar market, which remains in a most unaccountable state of torpor.
