ARRIVAL OF THE RANGATIRA FROM CANTERBURY AND OTAGO.
[The following was published in an "Independent Extra." on Tuesday.] Independent Office, 10 o'clock, a.m. The s.s. Eangatira, Captain Paddle, from Otago and Lyttelton, arrived in port this morning. She sailed from Port Chalmers on Saturday, at 1 p.m., arrived at Lyttelton on Sunday at 8 a.m., left that place yesterday at 1 p.m., and arrived here at 9-15 a.m., to day. The news from the diggings are of a most satisfactory character. The Eangatira has 13,000 ounces of gold on board for Sydney. Captain Paddle reports having sighted two steamers to the southward of Port Cooper on Saturday last, at 11*30. p.m., supposed to be the Queen and Wonga Wonga. CANTERBURY. We have papeis from this Proviuce to the 15 th instant. The s.s. Queen, hence, arrived at Lyttelton on the 14th instant, and sailed the following day for Otago. H.M.S.S. Corvette Harrier, 17 guns, Commander Sullivan, from the North, arrived at Lyttelton on Wednesday, the 12th inst. The brig Tyra, hence, arrived at Lyttelton, on the 14th iust-
