Mrs. Askin's Concert. — We have much pleasure in directing attention to an advertisement in another column, anouncing that a Concert will be held at the Odd Fellow's Hall, on Monday next, the 2nd June. Several Members of the Wellington Choral Society, and others have consented to assist Mrs. Askin, and from the 'attractive programme, we anticipate that there will be a full attendance on the occassian.
Queen's Birthday. — Saturday last being the 43rd Anniversary cf her .Majesty's Birthday, was observed aa a general holiday in Wellington. The Government offices and the Banks, and merchants stores were closed. At noon, H.M.S. Harrier fired a Royal salute. The -detachment of the 2nd Battalion 14th Regt., stationed here, were reviewed by Major Dwyer, the officer Commanding, on the Parade ground, near Mount Cook. After performing the several military evolutions, which they did with admirable precision, they fired a feu dejoie, and gave three hearty cheers for her Majesty the Queen. The men were then marched to barracks. The intended Cricket match did not come off in consequence of the inclemency of the weather.
