JAPAN
We are in receipt of news from Nag.iski to the 18th January, and Yokuharaa to the 7th. It was expected that Yeddo would be re-opened on the first day of the year, but the consuls of the various powers issued notifications to the effect that this would be posponed, for divers grave and weighty reasons. It would appear thau some fresh danger was imminent in the event of foreigners being allowed to take up their abode at the capital. The Japanese authorities had'eommuuicated their apprehension to the plenipotentiaries, stating- that they might uot possibly be able to avert the danger ; but if pospoaed for some time, this might be suppressed, ana foreigners admitted within the city bounds with safety. Mr. Alcock has a.l bodyguard of mounted troopers at the British La. 1 gatiou besides a guard of native soldiers to protect his residence. , . ; k ;
