(From tie tree Press, Feh 6.) . H, M. S Arracan got ashore at Tree Island yesterday morning. The Straits steara gunboat Tonze was sent to her assistance. The steamer which for some time past has been engaged in examining the cable, has given up the task, the telegraphic • engineers on board having arrived at the conclusion that it is irreparabie. The gutta percha and tarred covering has everywhere been found quite rotten and the iron wire covering has become completely corroded in many places.
