WANGANUI.
(From the Chronicle, Nov. 21.) The Bishop of Wellington. — In the end of last week the Bishop and Mr. Tayor returned from their trip up the river, having only been able, to go as far as Peperiki. The natives 1 are at present busy planting their potatoes, and none of them were found, willing to take their visitors up the river at the rate of payment which was offered to them. Address to Sir G. Grey. — The following reply was reoeived yesterday to • the Memorial sent to Sir George Grey from this place. Government House, Auckland, Nov. 2. ,1861. . ' . - Gentlemen, ,>• <.<.-,:. I feel great pleasure in-receiving at the hands of Mr. Fox, the Address of welcome you have sent to me on my arrival in this country I am very grateful to you for the kind expressions of esteem which you use regarding myself, and for your promises of support in my efforts to reestablish Peace in tbis oountry. I shall gladly avail myself of this assistance, aud you may rely upon my doing my best, in all things, to promote the welfare of the inhabitants of a t district to whom many past remembrances attach me, and whom, in former times of adversity, I* did my utmost to serve and to resto re again to peace and prosperity. ?
