REPLY OF HIS EXCELLENCY SIR GEORGE GREY, K. C. B,
To an Address of Welcome on his arrival in New Zealand, forwarded by the Inhabitants of the Hutt District. Gentlemen, — I thank you most cordially for your Address of Welcome on my arrival -in "New Zealand. In former years I have seen your beautiful ! Valley in great part laid waste, and its inhabitants bravely fighting for their homes. From ! that state I have seen it restored to peace, a high state of cultivation and great prosperity. In the midst of all these changes I have ever received from yon the most hearty welcome and proofs of esteem and regard, I can never forget these things ; and you may rely that my anxiety for your welfare shall always lead me to do my utmost to promote your prosperity. G. Gkey. Government House, Auckland, November 2nd, 1861. The Gentlemen signing the Address from the . Hutt District, Wellington.
