EUROPEAN NEWS. ONE DAY LATER.

The following items of intelligence are from the ' Times ' of the 27th June.

THE GOVERNOR ELECT OF , NEW

ZEALAND.

According to late New Zealand papers, his Excellency Sir George Grey» Governor elect of that colony, was expected to arrive in Auckland from the Cape of Good Hope, about the end of August, We yesterday received a file of Cape papers, embracing dates from the 30th of April to the 10 th of July, and, singularly enough, although the Duke of New castle's dispatch to the present Governor of New Zealand intimating his removal, and Sir George Grey's appointment in his stead, is dated 25th May, the contemplated change does not appear to, have been known at the Cape up to the latest date, not the most remote allusion l>eing made to it in the public prints. • His Excellency appeared to be discharging, .bs usual, the duties of his office. On the 4th of July, as stated by the Gape Mercantile Advertiser, a messagewtfs received from him by the Legis-

I ' ; --'■ *' lative Council, having reference to the.: annexation of the Transkeian territory. 7 to Her Majesty's South African posses-; X 1 sions. On the 10th, that journal reports \ that Sir George Grey had considerately provided for the future comfort andsup- s v port of a soldier of the Royai Artillery , who in helping to fire a salute yin honor, of his Excellency, had got his arm smash- ! Ed, which disabled him for future service. — Sydney Herald,
