The s. s. Airedale, Captain Kennedy, from Otago and Lyttelton, arrived in this harbour at 6 p.m. yesterday. She left here on the I3th instant, arrived at Lyttelton on the I4th, sailed from thence on the Isth for Otago, and arrived in Port Chalmers on the I6th. Eemained there two days, and sailed again on the IBth at 6 p.m., arrived at Lyttelton on the 19th at 7*30, p.m., left Lyttelton on the 20th at 6 p.m., and arrived here as above. Experienced fine weather during the whole of the trip south. Spoke the Mary Thompson, yesterday, from Napier Isth instant, bound^o Welling, ton, off the Kai Koras, becalmed. Transhipped her mails and passengers, and brought them on here. The Mermaid and Evening Star were to leave Lyttelton on the 21st instant, for London direct. They were both full ships, aud had very valuable cargoes, — the estimated value of the first named vessel being and the latter £42,000, the total value of both cargoes being £110,880. The clipper Blue Jacket was on the berth for London, and was expected to meet with dispatch. Captain White gave a ball on board this splendid ship on the 10th instant, which was very numerously attended. H.M.S.S. Fawn, hence, arrived at Taranald on Saturday afternoon last, and immediately proceeded en route for the Waitara and Manakau.

Yesterday, Mr. O'Neil's Binart little steamer « The Expert,' got up her steam and took a trial trip round the bay to prove her qualifiications. Her machinery had not been brought into perfect order, and she was therefore unable to attain her best speed ; but sufficient was done to prove that she will be a handy and fast little vessel, and well adapted to the carriage of passengers, in which trade we hope that Mr. O'Neill will meet with such success as may repay him for his enterprising venture. — Lyllellon Time* ,Feb. 20.

The ship Cashmere, Captain Petherbridge, one of Messrs. Shaw, Saville and Co.'s line of traders arrived on the 15th instant, from London via Otago, at which port she looked in to land some horses. She has been 102 days out to Otago, whence she sailed on Wednesday last. Out of seven horses, shipped at London, she has had the misfortune to loose four, one of which was consigned to Mr. G. H. Mooi'e, of Grlenmark. She brings a ML general cargo for this port and a few passengers. — Ibid, February 16. We noted in our last the cargo of the Mermaid, for London, than which a mora valuable has never left the shores of New Zealand. The Mermaid will get away to-day, being detained lip to this time to complete the ai'ragements for her passengers. The Evening Star will not be long behind her, having completed her loading, and all her passengers being in readiness. The details of her cargo are given above, though as her papers were not quite completed yesterday, the values cannot be accurately given. Her whole cargo may be estimated at 4^2,000, making, with that of the Aiermaid, an export of about 10,000 in the two ships. The Evening Star has a reputation for sailing, and the Mermaid takes no little pride in her speed, so that — the ships getting well away together — we may look for a pretty race home. Both are in good sailing trim, and commanded by seamen who will not lose an inch of ground that can be made by science or seamanship,— -Ibid.
