At a meeting of the New Zealand colonists, held iv London/ for the 1 purpose of inking into consideration the policy pursued by the local Government in reference to the disturbances, were passed the following resolutions: — Ist. That tha opposition, offered by the rebel Chief Wi reran JCiugi to the occupation of the land at. Waitara purchased by the Gov. rument of New Zealand>was nol founded on any real proprietary or other right held by Wiremu Kingi, but on bis determination to prevent any further acquisition of land by Europeans in the district of Taranaki. 2nd. 'I'll at the employment of militaiy force was not resorted to by the Governor of New Zealand until he had exhausted all other justifiable means of vindicating the supremacy'of the law, and maintaining the authority of the ~ Crown. That this meeting earnestly trust, in the interests of both races of her Majesty's subjects in New Zealand/that the war may be prosecuted with such energy and vig-mr as can alone bring it to a spitdy termination, .. and may convince the native people that they must appeal for redress of wrongs from' which they may conceive themsolves to be suffering to i he authority of the Queen, and not to the force of arms.
