The I. C. R. M. Company's Steamer Airedale from Sydney via Nelson, arrived in this harbour on .Sunday last, at 1 1 30. pin. The Airedale is in charge of Capt. Kennedy of the Lord Ashley, wbo takes the vessel south, bis own vessel having been sent on to Taranaki and Manakan in charge of the mate. This change in the command of the two vessels has been caused by a serious robbery that has been committed on board the Aimlnle, the particulars of which are as follows-. — The Airedale shipped in Sydney two boxes of sovereigns, containing each.X's,ooo. They arrived all safe at Nelson, and were la?t seen when the mail was transhipped to the Wonga Wonga, on Thursday evening 1 last. It, appears that the mail having been removed, the two boxes were replaced in the mail room, and the room locked. On Friday morning, it was discovered that the mail room had been broken open, and ou inspection it was found that the iwo boxes of specie had been absti acted. A S arching investigation was being made, and several persons bad been apprehended on suspicion, but up to the time of the Airedale leaving, no light had been thrown on the matter. The event had caused a great sensation.

An inquest was held at the Nag's Head Inn, on Monday last at noon, by Mr. Kcbbell, Esq., Coroner, and a respectable jury on view of the body. Several witnesses were examined, and after a patient investigation, a verdict of " Accidental death by drowning" was returned, with a rider requesting the Coro. ner to bring under the attention of the Superintendent the necessity of providing drags and buoys at the different wharves in the harbour, so that they might be in constant readiness in case of similar accidents.
