ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE
(To the Editor of the Wellington Independent) It appears your notice of the Road in your last issue had the def-ired effect, viz — A Pre-
liminury Meeting was held at Mr. Rotermund's Victoria Hotel, last Tuesday evening to take into consideration the dangerous state of the road in Cuba street, crossing Abel Smith Street and the best steps to be adopted, in order to re pair the same. Mr. R. S. Cheesmau having been requested to take tbe chair, gave a brief statement of the object of the meeting, and stated that the Provincial Government had willingly ugreed to advance a sum equivalent to that which might be raised by private aid and also to supply the ueccssary hard labour that might be required in forming the road in question. It was resolved that a subscription should be at once commenced, and the list should be sent round for donations.
It . was also resolved that a cart bridge over the stream near the Rev. A. Stock's residence should be included in the subscrpition. Mr. H. W. Rotermund wks appointed Treasurer, and Mr. Samuel Cobhatn, Surveyor was instructed to prepare a drawing and estiu/ute of the works required to be doce. Upwards uf £40 was raised in the room before the meeting separated.
