NEW ZEALAND KAURI GUM.

[From the Australian.']

Humours having been industriously circulated, thai New Zealand Kauri Gum was worthless in the London market, we are happy in being able to lay before our readers the following extract of a letter from a mo9t respectable mercantile house in London to their Correspondents here, the perusal of which will be satisfactory to many of our enterprising merchants, who have embarked some capi al in the speculation. We also append extracts from letters just received from New Zealand, showing that it is an article difficult to be had. (Extract from London letter.) " We now send a box containing newspapers, and three samples of Austialian Gums. " Packet marked A is a good fair sample of Arabic, worth 455. per cwt. here, from which you will have to deduct five per cent, for expense and commission ; so that you must make your own calculation of freight and shipping charges on your side, and make a further deduction in consequence, leaving always a-margin for any fall here. " Packet it is worth 355., and packet C is woith 205., expense us before to be deducted. •'ln reference to-quality, we have only to remark that samples A and B must be followed as near as possible, and that marked C rejected ; and should many such pieces be intermixed with a quality .sach as B, it would materially lessen its value.'' Extract of a letter, per Kate, from New Zealand ;— " 1 have now to inform you, that that * unsaleable article,' New Zealand Gum, is -scarcely to be purchased in Auckland at any price. I have tried all the old cal ectors and traders, but at £& per ton they would not look at me.; £b 10». was the lowest price any person would supply me for ; some, indeed, wanted £6 to £7. " There is no supply on hand, and the natives ask exorbitant prices tor-collecting it." Extbact of a letter received per Cecilia :•—• •• In to-day's paper, a copy of which I send you, I find tenders are required for the supply of 20 tons of Gum. This article, I think, will yet rise in value."
