ENGINEER’S REP JR Y TO COUNCIL USUAL MAINTENANCE IMPROVEMENTS TO STREETS Works completed and those that had received attention since the last meeting’, were reported on as under by the engineer, Mr F. G. Bourke, at the monthly meeting of the Wailii Borough Council: Maintenance: The usual maintenance in the matter of main and side streets, storm water channels and cess-pits has been attended to. Ir. addition, the following metalled road surfaces have received attention: Oldfield Road, Grey Street, Waiteto Road. Mataura Road, Boundary Road, Princess Street, Walinsloy Road, Svmonds Street, Cornwall Street, Savage Road, Pitt Street, Banks Street, Rata Street, Regent Street, Cambridge Road, Queen Street, Walker Street, Bradford Street, Clarke Street, Smith Street, Corbett Street and Gladstone Road. Footpaths: Bullcr Street, Surrey Street, Boundary Road, Evans Street, Consol Street, Banks Street, Pitt Street, Islington Terrace, Princess Street, Cambridge Road, Cornell Street, Bradford Street, Wilson Street, Gladstone Road, Victor.a Street, and Station Road have been repaired. Tar Patching: The following tarsealed surfaces have been repaired: Victoria Street bridge, Featon Road. Reusing!on Road, Tauranga Road (highway), Rosemont Road, Seddon Street, Kenny Street (highway). Beach Road (highway), Moresby Avenue, Clarke Street, corner and Victoria Street. Trees: The annual cutting and trimming of trees is in progress. STORM WATER DRAINAGE Storm Water Drainage: In addi lion to a number of main storm water drains being cleared, the clearing of that drain running through Mr W. E. Busch’s property and terminating in the borough sanitary farm has been completed. A portion of the 14,n by 12in wooden storm water culvert running through private property from Seddon Avenue across Baber Street having fallen in, I have to report that 20 feet of this culvert has been repaired and is now working satisfactorily. , Bridges: Extensive repairs have i been carried out in connection with , \ tiic Consol Street traffic bridge in the matter of cross bearers, uprights and i knee pieces. This bridge is now in a fair state of repair. The decking [ and handrail on the Mangatoeloe foot-bridge have also been repaired. Concrete Kerbing and Channelling and Footpath Formation: The concrete kerbing and channelling, together with footpath formation of tha f ;• portion of Kenny Street extending from Rosemont Road to Ilaszard , Street on the southern side, has been completed.

Johnston Street: The kerbing and channelling of that portion of John r.ton Street, extending from Silverton Road to Rosemont Road on the souih-

ern side, is in progress. Wilson Street: The kerning and channelling of that portion of Wilson Street extending from Mueller Street to Cilmour Street on the northern side is in progress.

PARKS AND WATERWORKS

Wallnutt Park: The concrete footpa 11; from the Kenny Street entrance to Roscmont Road through Wallnutt Park lias been completed. I have to report the arrival of Die inscription plate for the memorial seat to the late Mr E. J. Furey. The seat will be placed in position in the park as directed by Die Mayor and Or. J. G. Comes. Recreation Grounds: The removal and re-creclion of the post and wire fencing in connection with the extension of (lie croquet lawn in the Recreation Ground is in progress. Waterworks: A number of leakages in various parts of the borough have been attended to. The scouring of water mains, inspection of lire plugs and slop valves, together with the periodical examination of the main pipe line and reservoirs, has been carried out. In addition, because of the grading and levelling work in connection with that section in Kenu-y Street, two lire plugs have been lowered to permanent level; three burst mains have been pieced and repaired; two burst services repaired; and two services renewed between the water main and boundary of Die property. Services have also been connected from the water main in Haszard Street to the boundary of properties for the supply to the State houses now in course of erection.

Wilson Street Water Main: Eighy feet of tliis main has been renewed and all general complaints attended

ACTIVITIES AT BEACH Waihi Beach: The kerbing and channelling and footpath formation in Seaview Road, for a distance of •1:10 foot, is in progress. The stone walls fronting Messrs Poland and J Roberts' properties have been completed. This continuation of a similar wall on Die boundary of Miss Mullins’ properly is in progress. The respective owners are defraying the cost of this work. The pine trees at the end of School Road have been cut down as instructed, and the roadway lias also received attention. The power poles along the' line of footpath in Die township have been painted white for a distance of five feet from the ground as instructed. The footpath in front of Air Willis’ property, Main Road, lias been levelled, footpath betwen block 1 and 2 lias also received attention.
